Our Classified Employee of the Year is Ms. Carol Rego and our Teacher of the Year is Mr. Edwards. Ms. Rego has been an educator in the district for 5 years, and Mr. Edwards has taught for 7 years. Both were nominated and voted on by all the staff members at Cesar Chavez Middle School. They will be entered in the New Haven Unified Classified and Teacher of the Year for the whole district. Congratulations to them for their hard work and dedication to our school!
On Tuesday, January 29th, Cesar Chavez will hold a meeting for parents and students to build their Common Core State Standards Awareness, which will be implemented at New Haven Unified beginning in May 2013. At the meeting, parents and students will learn what they can do to prepare for our shift to these standards. If you have questions, please call Eileen Nicosia at 471-1100 ext. 60405. We will have our next Coffee with the Principal Team meeting on Wednesday, January 16th in the Staff Lounge, 9:00-10am. We will discuss Title I at this meeting.
We will have our 5th School Site Council meeting on Thursday, January 10th. 5:00-6:30pm in the Media Center. We will be discussing our Parent Involvement Policy.

Tragedies like the one that struck Newtown, Connecticut, on Friday December 14, can affect the lives of adults and children even thousands of miles away. Children can struggle with events like this in ways that are both visible and imperceptible to those around them. Attached is a list of suggestions and reminders for parents and teachers from the National Association of School Psychologists designed to help children cope with disasters of this nature.
