As your child matures, it is important to notice their level of respect. Learning to show adults respect does not mean giving up one’s individuality or ideas. Showing respect to adults inspires adults to return the favor and treat every student as mature person. Respecting adults is one of the important steps in developing a positive attitude that will help each student succeed in the future. I ask all students to show respect at school and refrain from using bad language. I want our school to be a place of high academic standards, achievement, and respect for all.
As you noticed, we do have a constant trash problem. I am asking all students to take part in the beautification of our school by throwing away their trash. I am also asking all students to pick up trash to help keep our campus clean. If you notice someone littering, please ask them to pick up their trash. We will have three important meetings on February 21st at our school. At 9:00-10:00am, we will host Title I Coffee with the Principal in our Staff Lounge (upstairs). Our School Site Council Meeting will take place in the Media Center, 5:00-6:30pm. Following this meeting, we will have our Parent Community Meeting, also in the Media Center, 6:30-7:30pm. We will have childcare provided for the Parent Community Meeting, so please bring your little ones!
On Friday, February 8th, we will have our Second Quarter Awards Assembly. We will recognize Honor Roll (3.0-3.699), Principal's Honor Roll (3.7 to 3.99), 4.0 GPA Hawk Award, and Perfect Attendance. Approximately 50% of our students are on Honor Roll or greater and ~20% of our students have perfect attendance. All students who receive a certificate will beinvited to attend the Red Carpet Carnival in the forum at lunch on the day of the Assembly. There will be booths set up for popcorn, snow cone, and cotton candy.

We will have our 6th School Site Council meeting on Thursday, January 31st 5:00-6:30pm. Following the meeting, we will host our Parent Community meeting 6:30-7:30pm. Both will take place in our Media Center. We will have a child care and a translator available for Spanish speakers.
Our Classified Employee of the Year is Ms. Carol Rego and our Teacher of the Year is Mr. Edwards. Ms. Rego has been an educator in the district for 5 years, and Mr. Edwards has taught for 7 years. Both were nominated and voted on by all the staff members at Cesar Chavez Middle School. They will be entered in the New Haven Unified Classified and Teacher of the Year for the whole district. Congratulations to them for their hard work and dedication to our school!
